One Day at a Time

How do I lose weight?  Finally it comes back to me…one day at a time.  One day to decide whether I’ll overeat or not.  Whether to eat healthy or not.  Whether I’ll exercise or not.  Whether I’ll be happy with my body or not.  It takes one day at a time.

Healthi-fied Jogger

I changed the name of this blog.  From Crudely Healthy to Healthi-fied Jogger.  Why you may ask.  First, my plan before was to discover ways to eating healthy on a budget–or from the natural or crude products.  But living in a dorm in a busy, congested city makes it difficult to find crude healthy stuff.

Healthi-fied Jogger is more applicable to me.  I love jogging–mostly jogging in place.  Less physically exhausting and more prone to ridicule but I feel great after every jog.

Mediterranean

E and I finally tried some Mediterranean food at this newly opened corner in my favorite mall.  I finally know the taste of hummus.  It was okay I guess but I don’t like the olive oil.

I think I have to take this blog seriously–enough of this just-for-the-sake-of-updating-my-blog post and actually focus on healthy food and wellness.

Anyway, moving on.  I am lucky to have options on food at work.  Most of these choices are mostly affordable and healthy–of course.  But right now I am a bread person.  I crave the hot bread.  I can skip on rice nowadays because I prefer bread.  I am that crazy over bread.  It does not really matter what kind just as long as it is hot–fresh from the oven.

I’ll be posting photos of the food I eat starting tomorrow, so expect a post from me. Okay? 🙂

Kindness

I found my discipline again–glad to tell you that! 🙂

My title is about this friend from work–she’s more of an older sister.  Because I’ve lost some weight, she decided to give me clothes that are too big for her but fits me perfectly.  She’s always been this petite woman and her sisters always give her clothes but some of these clothes are too big for her.  Being a kind big sister she gives me those clothes.

I don’t mind and I am even touched that of all people that she could give these clothes to, she chose me.  Nice! 🙂  The world needs more people like her.

Before

For the month of June, I’ve been having lots of “cheat days”.  I usually have 4 days of diet and 3 days off.  And I have maintained my weight that way.  But I just want to shed off this 10 lbs so I can finally have my goal weight.  So starting tomorrow I will go on a healthy diet without “breaks”.  I can always have some cravings whenever they strike but of course with the right proportion.    This time I really have to eat really healthy food to meet all of my needed daily nutrients.  There will be lots of fruits, veggies, white meat, fish, sweet potato and food supplement for calcium, potassium and magnesium.

That’s my opinion anyway…I’m not recommending it.  If you have comments or concerns then feel free to share it with me so I would know the right way of eating healthy. 🙂

By the tenth week,  I would be enjoying my more gorgeous body then…haha! 🙂

And oh btw, I had my workout this afternoon–jogging in place.  I was able to do it for 1.5 hours.  Maybe, I can run in a marathon with proper training.  I may not be a fast runner but maybe I can complete the race with endurance.  What do you think? 🙂

Tomato

Joanne and I had some lessons on rice.  We checked out the array of rice at the supermarket.  I saw some black rice and I remembered wanting to try it.  This weekend, I have to buy some.  She showed me the basmati rice.  It was indeed long-grained.  Maybe one day, after trying the black rice, I’d try the basmati next.

This morning, I also told her some technique in wearing a make-up.  She also loves make-up…well…she’s crazy over make-up.  I remember accompanying her to buy some expensive make-up.

We had lunch at this Italian place and I ordered pasta with tomato sauce.  I don’t really like sour food without a touch of saltiness or sweetness, but I have to mind what I eat and so I chose tomato sauce over alfredo sauce.  I was surprised I was able to finish the plate.

This evening while reading blogs I’ve read something about sardines and chicken.  SARDINES got stuck on my mind and the taste of that tomato sauce.  So tomorrow I’m planning on eating sardines and tomato.

I realized that I am beginning to love tomato.  Lycopene galore! 😉

Flavor of the Week

Last week, I ate chicken barbecue almost every lunch.

This week, I think I will eat canned tuna maybe almost every lunch.

Canned tuna is my lunch today.  I don’t have a can opener with me, good thing there is E to save my day!:)  It was nice of him to give me a glass of water, too while I read others’ blogs.  I truly appreciate that.

They say canned tuna or tuna is rich in omega-3 that is good for the heart.  I love my heart.<3

I’ m gonna attend my niece wedding tonight and I have some shopping to do;)

One word.  Antioxidants.

According to Healthcastle.com

Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.

If we take in antioxidants then we can protect our cells from the harmful effects of stress.

Fruits such as blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries, vegetables like beans, artichoke hearts, nuts like pecans, walnuts, and hazelnuts are some of the food very rich in antioxidant (according to Dr. Kim)  One of the challenges in our everyday diet is how to incorporate a variety of antioxidants, especially here in this tropical country where eating right is a challenge because there is no cranberries, blackberries here for example.

Thank God because of the many different innovations that make these antioxidants available.  That is what I’m going to write about next time.

Stress is the cause

Stress is everywhere.  No matter how frequent you do yoga, meditation, eat the right food, avoid pollution–whether you like it or not, you are exposed to stress.

What are the causes of stress?  Let’s take a look around you.  Living in a city, the noise is overwhelming, the air is not clean, dust and bacteria everywhere.  You can wear a mask or an ear plug, or wash every now and then but still, you can only do so much.  Results can be deafness, lung cancer, infection.

The food you eat–yes you eat healthy stuff, a balance of fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, dairy, little fat and sugar.  But there are toxins that can be found in some of the food around you.  Even the healthy food that you know can still have toxins.

Your social life–ocassionally you can drink or smoke.  Sometimes smoking and drinking have become habit.  Before you know it, lungs and liver are already destroyed.

Suppose to say, you don’t drink or smoke and you eat healthy stuff and you exercise everyday.  Exercise.  It causes physical stress to the body.  It still is stress.

Then there is emotional and mental stress.

So what can you do if you can’t avoid stress?  How do you protect yourselves from the harmful effects of stress.

It all starts with our cell.  Yes, that smallest unit of our body which composes the tissue, organ, organ system, whole body.  If you can protect the cell, then you have a greater chance of beating the bad effects of stress–that and a well-balanced life.

So how do we protect our cell?  By aiding it with a bunch of its friends.  What are its friends?  Coming soon…:)
